Dispatcher Leads Lost Woman Out of the Woods

The woods are lovely, dark and deep -- but be careful when you go for a walk. A woman and her dog got turned around in Newtown Sunday morning, but made it out thanks to a helpful dispatcher and police from Newtown and Monroe.

A Monroe police dispatcher received a frantic 911 call from a 52-year-old Bethel woman who was walking her dog in the woods and got lost at 10:54 Sunday morning. She was near Great Quarter Road off of Route 34, which is actually in Newtown, but the call on her cell phone was directed to Monroe, according to police.

By continuing to update the GPS locator on the woman's cell phone, police said the dispatcher was able to direct her to Great Quarter Road, where officers were sent to greet her. The dispatcher told them to sound their sirens to make their cars easier to find, according to the report.

Meanwhile, she dispatched the police K-9 unit to the scene and Newtown police officers were contacted to assist.

Monroe Police Lt. Brian McCauley said the woman and her dog were found just as the K-9 officer's car arrived.
