David Ruscoe, 57, of Hundred Acres Road, and formerly of Edgewood Drive, stands accused of sexually molesting a teenage family member for several years, according to an arrest affidavit filed in state Superior Court in Danbury.
Ruscoe allegedly began sexually abusing the girl, who is now 15-years-old, in 2007 and continued until late last year, according to the affidavit.
The abuse accusations surfaced after the teen, who is not identified in the affidavit and only referred to as Jane Doe, asked her mother if she could see a therapist, according to the affidavit.
"Jane Doe wanted to understand the things that Ruscoe had done to her," according to the affidavit.
Although the girl's mother suspected possible abuse on the part of Ruscoe, she could not confirm it until the girl began going to therapy, eventually telling her mother about the alleged abuse, according to the affidavit.
"Mother Doe took many steps and actions to further explore this, however, it wasn't until disclosure was made that (her) suspicions were confirmed," according to the affidavit.
The girl also discovered surveillance cameras had been installed in the bathroom she used, according to the affidavit. The girl's mother reported the suspected abuse to authorities in April and a search warrant was served on Ruscoe's home in May, police said.
Ruscoe denied the abuse, saying that he once pulled on the girl's bra straps and was told that was inappropriate by the girl's mother. He also denied using the surveillance cameras, saying he had bought the system to "keep an eye on the housekeeper" but that it never worked, according to the affidavit.
After being questioned further on the accusations, Ruscoe said, "I'm not liking the way this interview is going. I think it's time to speak to my attorney."
with first-degree sexual assault, two counts of second-degree sexual assault and three counts of risk of injury, illicit sexual contact with a minor. He was released on $500 bond. Police said they set the bond based on many factors, including whether he is deemed a flight risk.
Ruscoe is to appear in state Superior Court in Danbury on July 28.
