A one-vehicle accident has shut down Route 34 in Newtown.
According to the state Department of Transportation, the accident occurred near Great Quarter Road at about 5:30 a.m. A vehicle reportedly struck a utility pole.
The DOT gave no estimate of when the road would reopen.
