I would like to understand how the Newtown Youth Academy is going to use this money in tribute to Sandy Hook?

The NYA is a non-profit organization and have provided wonderful services well before December 14 and will continue to do so in the future. Many programs there do not cost money or are offered at reduced costs. I would imagine the funds would go towards subsiding programs there.
You could also also ask Peter D'Amico.

The not-for-profit, 501(c)(3), NYA has formed a fundraiser called "NYA Community Commitment & Support" which states: "Donations will be used to expand programming and enlarge the scope of NYA's special activities and events to meet the needs of the Newtown community as they heal from the recent tragedy."
See website link here: http://www.nyasportsfitness.com/community.html Also read two stories I covered about two recent events of NYA: http://newtown.patch.com/blog_posts/photos-major-league-soccer-stars-bring-respite-to-families-at-soccer-night-in-newtown-in-memory-of-sandy-hook-elementary#photo-12934705 http://newtown.patch.com/blog_posts/nya-sports-fitness-center-is-a-special-healing-place-for-newtown-after-the-tragedy

Thanks Paula and Tom. Can you let me know which programs are free(prior to Dec. 14th) and are they really reduced? My kids have attended many of the functions and they seem very expensive for a non-for-profit organization.

You can get all the information you need about NYA programs by contacting them directly. Here is their main website page: http://www.nyasportsfitness.com/ and the phone number is 203-426-0088.
The website has programs listed by category and the contact page has names and phone extension numbers for various NYA staff officials who can guide you depending on your interests.

Why is it the panel for this event does not include a single advocate for gun-owners' rights? WithRead More all due respect to Chief McNamara, why does the panel no include a person who can speak to gun safety from a gun-owning civilian's perspective? ML, you claim that the assembled folks "do not offer judgements about gun ownership" but they are not including a single voice that can offer perspective on gun ownership. I have been to "education" sessions sponsored by Meg's March for Change and they are one-sided indoctrinations into gun control advocacy. >>>> I was in Hartford for the public hearings in January when both Meg and March co-founder Nancy gave their personal testimonies and they all but threatened the legislators on the panel with election day retribution for all those who did not tow the gun-control line of thinking (i.e. March and CAGV). To suggest that Meg "does not offer judgements" is fallacious and disingenuous.
