The purpose of the new Hall of Fame is to celebrate the exceptional accomplishments of alumni and contributions to the school community by alumni and others, legacy future graduates can build upon.

The MHSAA said alumni are eligible for nomination 10 years after graduation in categories such as the arts, business, community service, education, government service, the law, military service, the media and sciences including medicine.

There is no category for sports. MHS sports has its own Hall of Fame.

The inaugural Hall of Fame dinner and celebration is to be held May 2, 2014, at Anthony’s Restaurant, Malden, Ma. (details to be announced).

While the number of nominees in the first class is yet to be determined, one will be honored posthumously.

The nominations will come from those in the Malden community who believe that someone they know, or know of, should be selected for a place in the Hall.

Special nomination committees have been set up to review the submissions. All nominees not selected this year will remain in consideration for future selection.

Eventually, plaques commemorating Hall of Fame inductees will be displayed in Malden High.
