Sandy Hook supporters have been buzzing around town putting up flyers and publicizing the first-ever Passport to Sandy Hook event this Saturday.
Below are two letters inviting the public to the inaugural occasion, which starts 11 a.m., Oct. 8.
To the editor:
As a member of the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company, I’d like to invite the people of Newtown and Sandy Hook to join us for a very special community event on October 8. The 1st annual Passport to Sandy Hook will feature the great shopping and dining that Sandy Hook has to offer. While this day will be great fun for people of all ages, it will also serve as an opportunity to help those in need. The Sandy Hook Fire Department will be parking one of our trucks in the parking lot behind 102 Church Hill Rd. Our “touch-a-truck” will allow you to come on board and see our truck…a great opportunity for kids! Perhaps even more importantly, this truck will also be part of a “stuff-a-truck” campaign to benefit the Faith Food Pantry. We hope that everyone who comes to join us for a great day of fun at Passport to Sandy Hook will come over with a non-=perishable food item to help us stock the shelves at the food pantry. As we head into the colder months ahead, many families are in need of food…this is our chance to help them! Passport to Sandy Hook will be a great day for the community to come together and support the Sandy Hook shops and dining facilities, but also to support those in our community who are in need. Please help the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company stuff our truck. Bring your non-perishable items to the fire truck behind 102 Church Hill Rd. between 11 and 4 on October 8th.
Thanks for your help!
See you there,
Ryan Clark

To the editor,
I've been proud to call Sandy Hook home for over 20 years. Over these past 2 decades, I've certainly seen the community grow and change. I joined Sandy Hook Organization for Propserity (SHOP) just over a year ago to give back something to the community I love so much. These merchants and community leaders are dedicated to improving Sandy Hook, and ensuring the local businesses have a community that fosters growth and development.
Over the years, events like the Christmas Tree Lighting and the Duck Race have drawn huge crowds to Sandy Hook. This year, SHOP is happy to announce a new event, this Saturday, October 8, called Passport to Sandy Hook. I invite all of you to come take advantage of the unique shops and eateries in Sandy Hook and see all we have to offer. Each participant will be given a passport with boxes to fill in with a stamp from each merchant, and then completed passports will be entered to win 1 of 3 fantastic prizes! As you stroll from place to place, you'll enjoy Halloween treats, face painting, a bounce house, free samples, discounted meals, live music and more!
This free event is our way of showcasing how great Sandy Hook is, and I hope you will come and join us for a fun-filled day for people of all ages. We simply ask that you bring a donation for the FAITH Food Pantry to contribute, and leave it at the Fire Truck behind 102 Church Hill Rd. to help us Stuff the Truck. Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue will be happy to show you their truck and accept your food donation!
The fun begins at 11 a.m. and will go until 4 p.m., with the drawing to take place at 4:30. Please join us for this great community event on Saturday! You can visit www.ExperienceSandyHook.com for more information.
