In Memoriam: Sally Ratyna, Longtime Newtown Resident

A 'gentle Southern lady,' Ratyna was actively involved in local church and theater.

Sally Montgomery Ratyna of Southbury died peacefully on Thursday July 25, 2013 with her family by her side.

Sally was born on October 10, 1932 in Springfield, Kentucky, the youngest of five siblings. She was the loving wife of Joseph Ratyna for 53 years and the devoted mother of Anthony J. Ratyna and Robin (Ratyna) Sheridan.

Sally will be missed by all who knew her, especially by her three grandchildren, Kelly, Kate and Sean Sheridan and by her many nieces and nephews in Tennessee and Kentucky. Sally lived in Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Massachusetts before moving to Connecticut. She lived in Newtown for many years before moving to Southbury ten years ago. Sally was a member of the parish of St. Rose of Lima Church in Newtown for 37 years. At St. Rose she served as a Eucharistic Minister, President of the Women's Club and was actively involved in the annual theater productions. Sally will be remembered as a gentle Southern lady who had a generous spirit and an outgoing personality. Her friends knew her as a person who was always giving of herself and ready to lend a hand to anyone who needed one.

Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday August 1, 2013. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Rose of Lima Church, Friday August 2, 2013 at 10:00am. Interment will be private.
