In Memoriam: Roland Long, 80, Realtor and Air Force Pilot

Roland C. Long, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died August 23, under the respectful care of the Danbury Health Care Center in Danbury. He was born in New York City, May 19, 1933.

He leaves his son Roland C. Long III of Newtown; his friend and life partner Elizabeth Carlten of Windham, Maine; one grandson; one great-grandson; and his former wife, Irene Grey of Longmeadow, Mass.

Mr. Long graduated from Williams College in Massachusetts in 1955, and flew for the US Air Force and SAC, and then the National Guard. He was discharged in 1975 as a major in the Air Force. He was employed by US Steel from 1963 to 1969, then opened Trojan Pools and Rock Ledge Realty, which had three offices in western Connecticut. He later moved to Florida. Mr. Long was a man who will be greatly missed by those who knew him. He enjoyed and lived life to the fullest.

Friends may pay last respects during visiting hours, Friday, September 6, from 4 to 7 pm, in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown. Because Mr. Long was appreciative of the Senior Center in Port Charlotte, memorial donations may be directed to a senior center of one’s choice.
