In Memoriam: Oreste DiNinni, 90

Oreste Tulio DiNinni, 90, of East Hartford, loving husband of 62 years of Maria A. (Colaneri) DiNinni, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, November 7, 2013 with his caring family by his side at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford.

Born on June 22, 1923 in Palmoli, province of Chieti, Italy, a son of the late Vincenzo and Elena (Donatelli) DiNinni, he had been a resident of East Hartford for over 50 years. Oreste was a veteran of World War II with the Italian Army. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for over 20 years by the Local Union #478, Hamden where he was an Operating Construction Engineer.

A devout Catholic, Oreste was a long-time faithful communicant of St. Mary’s Church, East Hartford. He was a member of the St. Valentine’s Social Club in the East Hartford area, and enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. He loved traveling, especially to the beach and ocean, and returning back to his hometown in Italy to socialize with family and friends. Oreste was also a talented soccer player and coach both in Italy and the Hartford area. He liked all animals and watched “Animal Planet” faithfully.

Most of all, Oreste enjoyed spending time with his family (especially the grandchildren), as he was truly a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Besides his parents he was predeceased by two sisters, Dorina Bolognese of Bronx, NY and Lida Bolognese of Palmoli, Italy. Along with his beloved wife, Maria, Oreste is survived by his three daughters, Valentina “Dina” Daddario and her husband, Bill, of Southbury, Elena Benson and her husband, George, of Newtown, Wanda DeLand and her husband, Jeff, of Ellington; eight special grandchildren, Alexandra Edwards and her husband, David, of Rockville, MD, Vanessa Daddario and her fiancée, Simon Vilain, of Belgium, Daniella Daddario of Falls Church, VA, Kevin DeLand of Hamden, Alyssa DeLand of Ellington, Sara Benson of Newtown, Ryan DeLand of Ellington, Brianna DeLand of Ellington; two adored great-grandchildren, David Edwards, III and Liana Edwards; several nieces, nephews, and other close relatives and dear friends. 

Funeral services will be Friday (November 15th) with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at St. Mary’s Church, corner of Main Street/Maplewood Avenue, East Hartford. (Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church on Friday morning). Entombment will follow at Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, (Mausoleum), Bloomfield. Oreste’s family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday (November 14th) from 3:30 – 7:30 pm at the D’ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. Oreste’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Roy Zagieboylo (family physician for over 20 years) and the entire staff at St. Francis Hospital (especially the caregivers of the Inter-Mediate Care Unit on 8-7) for their professionalism, care, love, and compassion given to Oreste and his entire family.
