In Memoriam: Michael Volpe, 59, Little League Coach and Umpire

Volpe worked at MBI in Danbury and sang in the choir at St. Rose of Lima.

Michael James Volpe, age 59, a 17 year resident of Newtown, died peacefully Friday morning, March 1, 2013 at Danbury Hospital surrounded by his loving wife and son.

He was born in Bridgeport on November 10, 1953, a son of Lena (Trovarelli) Volpe of Bridgeport and the late James Volpe. He was raised in Bridgeport and attended Sacred Heart University in Fairfield. He is married to his loving wife, Penny (Roujansky) Volpe. Michael was a huge sports fan, particularly a baseball lover. In his younger years, Mr. Volpe worked as both a coach and an umpire for Little League baseball leagues around Connecticut. He was also an enormous Yankee fan. Michael was a loyal employee of MBI in Danbury for 25 years. Further, he had a beautiful voice and was a beloved member of the St. Rose of Lima Church choir.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his brother, James, and by his two sons, Joshua and Izaiah all of Newtown.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown Monday March 4th at 10:30am. Interment will follow in Mountain Grove of Easton Cemetery. Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St. Newtown Sunday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Praxair Cancer Center, 24 Hospital Avenue, Danbury, CT 06810.
