In Memoriam: Jeremiah Hunihan, 75, 'Jack of All Trades'

A resident of Sandy Hook, he spent his last years in Woodbury.

Jeremiah Michael “Jerry” Hunihan age 75 of Woodbury passed away unexpectedly April 10, 2013 at his home.

He was the husband of Kimberly (Swan) Hunihan. Jerry was born in Danbury on July 26, 1937 a son of the late Andrew J. and Margaret Qubick Hunihan. He was a resident of Sandy Hook for the majority of his life until he moved to Woodbury in 2008. Mr. Hunihan was a graduate of Newtown High School, class of 1956 where he was a member of the Future Farmers of America. For over 35 years, he was employed by the State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation, until his retirement from his position as Foreman.

Jerry enjoyed antique cars and tractors. He was a “jack of all trades” and enjoyed working in his yard and on projects around his home. He took great pride in his accomplishments. Jerry loved the peace and serenity he found in Woodbury. He loved talking with people and could go on for hours.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Hunihan is survived by his 5 sons, Jeremiah and his wife Lee of Suffield, Mark and his wife Cathy of Woodbury, Stephen and his wife Pamela of Eustis, FL, Kenneth and his wife Bridget of Peachtree City, GA and Joseph and his wife Christine of Southbury; a Stepdaughter, Andrea Volikas; his sisters, Lorraine Mihalek, Mary Condon and her husband John, Roseanne H. Fox, Joan Hennessey, Ellen Short and her husband Edward and Barbara Trudeau; 11 grandchildren, Jerry, Ryan, Claire, Stephanie, Andrew, Anne, Caitlyn, Sean, Sara, Kyle and Benjamin and numerous nieces and nephews. Also survived by his former wife and mother of his sons, Joan M. Browne Hunihan of Tavares, FL and by his former wife of 22 years, Carol Palmeri Hunihan of Castle Rock, CO. He was predeceased by his brothers, James R. Hunihan and Andrew J. Hunihan and by a sister, Jean Hunihan Hamilton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Rose of Lima Church, Newtown Monday April 15th at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in St. Rose Cemetery. Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown Sunday afternoon from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.
