In Memoriam: Erwin Thater, 89

Erwin Thater, 89, of Newtown, father and father in law of William and Judith Thater of Danbury, died at his residence on Thursday, October 10, 2013.

He was the husband of the late Evelyn (Gordon) Thater.

Dr. Thater was born in Ridgewood, Queens, New York, November 9, 1923, attended New York schools , The Cooper Union School , Brooklyn Polytechnic University and Columbia University where he received his PhD degree in Chemical Engineering.

A World War II U.S. Army Air Force veteran, Dr. Thater was a retired chemical engineer with the Mobil Oil Corporation and an Adjunct Professor at C.W. Post and Hofstra University.

He was a resident of Newtown for the past two years coming from Garden City, L.I., New York and enjoyed the sport of golf.

In addition to his son and daughter in law, William and Judith, he is survived by two grandsons, Stephen and Michael and was predeceased by a brother, Richard.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at 7:45 PM in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury will the Rev. Carolyn Legg, Chaplin of Regional Hospice of Western CT officiating.

Interment will take place at the direction of the family.

The family will receive friends in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury on Tuesday after 6PM.
