In Memoriam: Erin Morrarty, 31

Erin Michelle (Semple) Morrarty, 31, passed away in a tragic car accident on Monday, December 16, 2013. She was the wife of Brian D. Morrarty.

Erin was born February 17, 1982 at Danbury Hospital, daughter of David and Valerie (Testa) Semple. She was raised in Marietta, GA and graduated from Pope High School with honors in 2000. During her teen years, she was an active member of St. Ann’s Life Teen in Marietta. In 2003, she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Mass Media Communications, minor in International Studies from Georgia College & State University. During her time at GCSU, she wrote for the school newspaper, was active in many honor societies and clubs and was a member of the Gamma Sigma Sig sorority. Erin also had the opportunity to study abroad. After her graduation, she worked for the Cherokee Tribune in Canton, GA and Business Securities in Atlanta, GA. Erin also became a published author in 2006 with her book, His Wrath. Erin moved to New York in 2005 to attend New York University. She graduated with honors receiving her Master’s Degree in Magazine Publishing. During her media career, she worked for Food & Wine, Real Simple Magazine, Reader’s Digest and F & W Media. Her current employment was with National Shooting Sports Foundation in Newtown as a web content manager.

Erin loved to travel visiting 18 different countries. She was determined, resilient, driven, ambitious and fearless. Presently, she was working towards a second Master’s Degree in Counseling with hopes of a PhD. She and her husband were avid dart players. They competed together within the Western Connecticut Dart League C Division and the Westchester Putnam Dart League C Blue Division. Erin also had a love for penguins and daffodils.

Besides her husband of nine months, Brian, she leaves behind her parents, David and Valerie Semple; a brother, Matthew Semple, all of Marietta, GA; maternal grandparents, Sal and Gloria Testa of Bethel; In-laws, Sandy and Michael Prebenna, Robert Morrarty and Stephen Morrarty; and many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 23, 2013 at The Church of St. Mary, 24 Dodgingtown Rd, Bethel at 10:30 am. Friends are asked to meet directly at the church. Private cremation will follow. Calling hours will be held at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St, Danbury, on Sunday December 22, from 1:00 – 4:00 pm.
