In Memoriam: Doris Laird, 84

Doris Pearson Laird of Newtown, wife of the late James S. Laird died on December 12, 2013 in Southbury.

She was born in New Haven on September 29, 1919, daughter of the late Raymond and Emma Rausch Pearson. She had been a resident of Newtown since 1963 and a part time resident of Rupert, VT since 1954.

Doris was a member of the Newtown Congregational Church and served for many years on the flower committee and the book of remembrance. She was an active member of the Newtown Horticulture Club and the Newtown Woman's Club. She was also a driver for Meals on Wheels and served as a nurse for the American Red Cross blood mobile. She was a registered physical therapist and graduated from the Middlesex Hospital School of Nursing as an R.N. Doris will always be remembered for her loving kindness to her family and friends.

She is survived by her sister- in -law, Arline Laird; five nephews, John Laird, Thomas Laird and his wife Corinne, James Laird and his wife Lynn, Enos Stevens and his wife Laura, Russell Stevens and his wife Mary; and nine grand nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank her close friends and dedicated caregivers for all their help over the past several years.

There will be a memorial service on December 21, 2013 at 10:30am at the Newtown Congregational Church. Committal will take place at the Newtown Village Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
