In Memoriam: Clare Cosgrove, 95, Artist, from Ireland to Newtown

Clare Cosgrove, (nee Franklin) age 95 of Newtown, died Saturday, September 28th, 2013 at Pope John Paul II Care and Rehabilitation Center, Danbury. Clare was the wife of the late Michael Cosgrove. She was born in Cloonalaghan-Lacken, Ballina, Co. Mayo, Ireland on February 17th, 1918.

She was the daughter of the late Martin and Catherine (Collins) Franklin. She was extremely creative and excelled in the making of lace, crochet and embroidery. Clare was a very talented artist and enjoyed painting landscapes, seascapes and still life.

She is survived by her sons John Cosgrove of Co. Mayo, Ireland and Michael Cosgrove of Newtown, a daughter Terry Lavin of Co. Mayo, Ireland, brother John Franklin, sisters Kathleen (Kelly) and Maude McHale, daughter-in–law, son-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Friends may call into the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown on Tuesday, Oct.1st from 5 pm till 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Rose of Lima Church, Newtown, Wed. Oct. 2nd at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, New York.
