David Stampfl, 56, Newtown Country Club Chef, Dies

Mass of Christian burial for Southbury resident is scheduled for Wednesday, May 11 at St. Rose Church.

David C. Stampfl, 56, a Newtown Country Club chef and husband of Geraldine M. “Suzy” Gillen of Southbury died unexpectedly Thursday May 5, at Waterbury Hospital.

He was born August 13, 1954, the son of the late Dr. Adolph J. and Patricia A. (Carlin) Stampfl. Stampfl grew up on Long Island and was a graduate of Biscayne College in Miami, Florida. He then attended the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York graduating in 1979.

Stampfl was a master chef at the . A resident of Southbury the past 7 years, he previously worked and lived in Key Largo, Florida. In addition to being an excellent chef, Stampfl was a “techie” and could set up and operate the most sophisticated of today’s modern electronics.

He was a rabid New York Yankees fan. Stampfl and the food he cooked will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his wife, Stampfl was survived by two sisters, Marianne Wimmer and her husband Robert of Eastport, Long Island, N.Y. and Elizabeth Stampfl and her life partner Michele of Shelburne, VT; three nieces, Megan, Kelley, and Karen; a great niece, Madison; and a great nephew, Jake.

Dave was also survived by his mother and father-in-law, William and Geraldine Gillen, four sisters-in-law, Maureen Gillen, Sheila Gillen Gross, Patty Gillen McQuail, and Bernadette Addessi; a brother-in-law, Kevin Gillen and all of their families. He will be missed by his cat “Bubbles”

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at , Newtown on Wednesday May 11 at 10 a.m. Interment will be private. There are no calling hours.
