March with Mothers United Against Violence

An opportunity to march against violence.

If you weren't able to join the March for Change on February 14 because of work, now is your second chance. If you wanted your kids to experience what it is like to exercise their U.S. citizen's right to peaceably assemble to demonstrate for a cause, but didn't want to take them out of school, now is the time. Or if you were in Hartford on February 14, and you would like to be there again, this is it.

Mothers United Against Gun Violence is holding their 5th Annual March, Memorial and Rally on Saturday, March 30 in Hartford. The march will take place starting at 9:30 AM, gathering at Main and Albany. The rally will take place at 10:30 at the North Portico of the Capitol [facing Bushnell Park]. Marchers will be led by those carrying crosses with the names of the 359 who have died on the streets of Hartford since 2000. The March will arrive at the Capital about 10:30 AM where those who cannot march - it is about a 1.2 mile walk - may meet ahead of time.  The Memorial at the North Portico [facing Bushnell Park] will bring to mind those who have died of gun and other violence in Hartford and other cities and towns of Connecticut, including Newtown. Following the rally, mothers and families of the fallen will share messages as will Senator Richard Blumenthal, Governor Dannel Malloy, and Senator Chris Murphy.

Mothers United Against Violence was fighting urban gun violence long before 12-14-12. It is important that Newtown and others in Connecticut come out to show that it is not just about  Newtown’s children, but all children who have needlessly lost their lives to gun violence.
