A Sandy Hook Tribute Painting for Newtown

Artist from Rochester, NY, wants to send memorial painting to Newtown, Ct., to honor the lives lost at Sandy Hook.

My name is Nereida Vazquez and I am an artist in Rochester, NY, as well as a mom.  The tragedy at Sandy Hook left me so heartbroken for the victims and their loved ones, that I wanted to honor them in the only way I know how. So I painted a tribute for the sole purpose of giving it to Newtown in hopes that it will, one day, become part of a permanent memorial. But after news that that town officials need people to stop sending any material goods, I don't know what I should do. I don't want to see it destroyed, and I don't want it ending up in some ones hands to profit monetarily in any way because that was never my intention. I'm hoping that maybe someone in your town may see it and want it for a permanent tribute in Newtown because I just want to give it to where it will honor these 20 beautiful children and 6 amazing woman best.

(it is approximately 6 feet high by 6 feet wide, acrylics on unstretched canvas so it can be easily transported).

Nereida, thank you so much for this beautiful painting in honor of our 26 children and adults who lost their lives in December. I don't know if you contacted them, but please send an email to newtownvolunteertaskforce@gmail.com and let them know about your donation. They are a small group of volunteers who are now working on reviewing the donations and putting them in a database for future use.

What a beautiful work Nereida. I look forward to seeing it displayed in every town in some forum. A touching tribute to my courageous neighbors who have changed us forever.

Beautiful painting, it should be displayed at the town hall where the most people could see it.
