12.14 Foundation Year in Review

'Seussical The Musical,' their inaugural production, was presented in August.

Dr. Michael Baroody, founder of the 12.14 Foundation, sent out this update on the progress made by the foundation during their initial year of operation. I recently gave their inaugural production of Seussical The Musical the top position on my list of Top Ten Productions by Young Actors 2013. I can't wait to attend their future presentations.

The 12.14 Foundation originated in February with a mission to provide an avenue for healing through the arts, build confidence through high personal achievement, and build a landmark performing arts center that will, in part, serve as a physical representation of strength following the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy.  As we approach 2014, I would like to update you on the progress we have made at the 12.14 Foundation during our initial year of operation.  Below is a summary of just a few of our 2013 activities and achievements:

  • Board Leadership and Extended Team.  The Foundation’s board began with a strong core and evolved with key additions over the course of the year.  Our team now consists of leaders in theatre design, performing arts, technology, and public relations.  Our extended team includes experts in finance, law, and business development.

  • Seussical: The Musical in Newtown.  Our inaugural production, Seussical: The Musical, demonstrated the amazing life-changing outcomes that can result from combining the best of Broadway’s leadership with talented, dedicated children from our local community. • 12.14 at the ING Hartford Marathon.   A team of 26 ran the 2013 ING Hartford Marathon Event to benefit a greater purpose, raising money and awareness in support of 12.14 Foundation.

  • Performing Arts Theatre Feasibility Study.  We have hired Webb Management Services and Theatre Projects Consultants, both experts in theatre project planning and development. The preliminary research regarding the feasibility of constructing and operating a world-class facility in Newtown is well underway.  We will be publishing the findings of this research early in 2014 at which time an architect selection process will commence.

  • Scotty McCreery and 12.14 Foundation.  Some of you may be aware that Scotty McCreery, winner of American Idol 2011, has been selected as an ambassador of 12.14 Foundation.  Look for further developments in our relationship with Scotty and other marquee entertainers in the coming months.

While we plan to expand significantly on the above and other activities during 2014, we cannot do so without your continued financial support.  Please click here to make a 100% tax-free donation to 12.14 Foundation.  In less than five minutes, you will support a cause that is dedicated to the resilience of our community and the future of our children.

On behalf of the 12.14 Foundation, I wish you safe holidays and a healthy, happy New Year.
