On January 8, 2011, my hometown of Tucson, Arizona was shaken to the core by the terrible mass shooting that took the lives of several people, including young Christina Taylor-Greene, and severely wounded our member of Congress, Gabby Giffords. The news from Newtown has many of us reliving the shock and horror of that time. Our hearts are with you in these unfathomably sad days.
That terrible time also brought out the best in our community, and the outpouring of love and support among Tucsonans, and from the larger human family, inspired me to write a song of hope and healing. An all-star cast of Tucson musicians donated their time to help me record it, and film faculty and students of the University of Arizona turned the song into a beautiful music video.
