Santa for SandyHook Heros

Santa for Sandy Hook.. How does it sound to Newtown?

My name is Lynn Samperi and I am a resident in Wallingford, CT.Both my husband and I dress as Santa and Mrs Claus for many state events, events at senior centers and local schools and day cares. We have been brainstorming a way we could personally help the town of Newtown and especially the children and families of our lost heroes. My husband and I would like to come to Newtown as Mr and Mrs Claus with green and white candy canes of hope for all.  However we want to have permission as we understand how overwhelmed the town must be. I have written to the superintendent of schools and the first selectwoman but they are both obviously busy with handling this tragedy. I wrote to the editor of the Patch and her recomendation is that I send this out in a blog to see what the response from the Newtown commmunity is.

I have mentioned the possibility to many and all think it would be wonderful for the children to get a hug from the season representative or his wife. We will travel door to door if that is what the residents want, but we want to only do what is right for Newtown. Please cast your opinion on this blog so that with the assistance of the Patch we can arrange for this to happen.

With a heavy heart,

Lynn and Gary Samperi

I think its a wonderful idea! My entire family, including my 2 children, are in absolute loss. We have no words to describe the feeling and for something like this to happen would sure put a lot of smiles on our children's faces!!

I would also love to help this couple and help our community that the holidays are still here. We can do a hot chocolate stand and there is a lot of toy drives where we can give toys to the children. Let me know what we can do or who to contact to do this. Alexzgal369@gmail.com

Hi Newtown, it's your Claus conduit here. Mrs. Claus has told me that plans are in the works. She said she spoke with Robert at Youth Services and he loves the idea. Details are being ironed out. Mrs. Claus gave the e-mail address of her liaison Lynn Samperi, saying "Please provide her email to all and we will all work together." Lynn can be reached at Lynnp0380@aol.com.

Sounds great! I grew up in New Jersey in the small town of Dunellen, where every year, Santa rides his sleigh (pulled by a tractor, as there usually isn't any snow) on Christmas Eve through every street, giving candy canes to the children ( it was boxes of animal crackers when I was little). I think he can find time for Newtown!

It sounds like a loving thing to do. Residents could go and be touched by the spirit a little or choose to stay back from it. Very loving gesture.
