Macaroni Kid's Weekend Calendar for Newtown

Looking for something to do with your family this weekend? How about a Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt, attend a Block Party, help families in need this Easter or see the Escher String Quartet?

Looking for something to do with your family this weekend, here’s what’s happening in Newtown:

Friday, March 30 

8th Annual Flashlight Egg Hunt Grab a flashlight, a bag or basket and head over to Dickinson Park for an evening of hunting for eggs in the dark. For children ages 9 and up. Festivities begin at 8pm. Registration required (203) 270-4340.

Easter Basket Donations Donate to families in need this Easter. Now through March 31, The Newtown Junior Women's Club will be collecting donated Easter baskets ready for Easter morning or other Easter holiday items for needy children. Residents are invited to drop off donations at Berkshire Motors, 25 Berkshire Road (opposite the high school). Donations are being accepted Monday through Friday from 7:30 am until 5:30 pm, and Saturday from 9 am until noon.

Edmond Town Hall Movie War Horse, Rate PG-13 will be playing through the weekend. This movie is recommended for tweens or teens. 

Saturday, March 31

Block Party Plaza South located at 274 South Main Street will hold its first block party this weekend. Pick up your passport at the Union Savings Bank located at the Plaza and visit each participating business to have your book stamped. There will be a lot of fun things for children to do including free face painting, arts and crafts, a fire truck and race car display, food, and a bouncy house. Macaroni Kid will also be there with something special for everyone. The party ends at Good Ideas where attendees can submit their stamped passports for a chance to win a basket full of prizes.

Perfect Prom Newtown Newtown High School students attending the senior prom this year are invited to pick out their dress today. There will be gently used dresses and some still with tags. The sizes range from 0 -22. Also enter to win a manicure, hairstyling and flowers for the special evening. The event is hosted by the Girl Scout Troop 50843. It will take place at The Garage Teen Center located at 57 Church Hill Road. For information call (203) 304-1859.

Sunday, April 1

Escher String Quartet with Jason Vieaux playing guitar The concert is sponsored by the Newtown Friends of Music. The performance will include works of Castel-Nuovo, Boccherini, Verdi and Vivaldi. Tickets are $20, children ages 5-14 are free with a ticket holding adult. Concert is located at the and begins at 3pm.

I goggled the Connecticut Council on Freedom of Information and they are indeed nothing more than a non-profit group. They are not a government agency. And an inept one - their own website is a mess. Town Clerk Aurelia is already causing the town to needlessly spend money defending her derelictionRead More of duty: "An attorney representing the town, with the law firm Cohen and Wolf, issued an opinion in response to the, (New York), Post's request stating that the public is only allowed to view death and marriage certificates that are "at least one hundred years old." Cost aside she is pushing for a state law that would restrict access to a minors birth certificate for 6 months, she originally wanted them sealed for 10 years. The only thing the proposed law is going to accomplish is the healing that has been accomplished is going to be undone when the seal expires.
