Danbury Animal Welfare Society (DAWS) will hold its 6th annual Making a Difference Ball on Saturday, March 9th from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at the newly renovated Ethan Allen Hotel on 21 Lake Avenue Extension, Danbury. The event will feature silent & live auctions, plentiful food and drink, and entertainment by Connecticut’s premier event band, Higher & Higher. All proceeds will go to help the mission of Danbury Animal Welfare Society.
This is DAWS’ largest annual fundraiser, attended by over 300 people and supported by hundreds of others through sponsorships, journal advertisements, financial and in-kind donations. The revenue from the Making a Difference Ball goes directly to improving the lives of animals in our community and beyond. Christopher Rohland, President of the DAWS Board of Directors, says, “This year DAWS hopes to raise funds to further expand the shelter and clinic to provide more life-saving care to our most vulnerable dogs and cats in the community. This fundraiser is indispensable in helping us accomplish our goals.”
In 2012, DAWS provided medical care to over 1,200 animals and helped over 730 dogs and cats find their forever homes. In addition to adoptions, DAWS also aids the community through various programs such as low-cost spay/neuter services as well as Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), a program that spays and neuters feral cats and manages feral cat colonies that exist in our community.
Each year, DAWS honors individuals or an institution for their support. This year’s honorees are our very own veterinarians, Cary Brenner, DVM and Tamara McArdle, DVM. Their dedication and perseverance in helping homeless animals personifies the DAWS mission. After learning of this honor, Dr. McArdle, a graduate of the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, said, “I am truly flattered to be an honoree at this year's DAWS Making a Difference Ball. This fundraiser is key. Every dollar raised really will make a difference! From the high quality facilities to the outstanding technical staff, the DAWS medical program is one that I am incredibly proud to represent.”
