Newtown loses to Dedham but beats Cranston in first rounds of the Cal Ripken 9U New England Regional Tournament. 

Dedham, Mass. 6, Newtown Renegades 3
In the first round of the Cal Ripken 9U New England regional tournament, the Newtown Renegades lost to Dedham, Massachusetts, 6-3.

Joey Rios pitched four innings, holding Dedham to two runs while striking out five. Connor Haywood slammed the lone extra base hit for the Renegades with a double in the 5th inning.

Newtown Renegades 14, Cranston, R.I. 4
In the second round of the Cal Ripken 9U New England regional tournament, the Newtown Renegades beat Cranston, Rhode Island, 14-4.

All of the Renegades bats were swinging in this match-up. Joey Rios and Connor Haywood each went 3 for 4 with a double, while Josh Taylor went 2 for 4 with a double and a triple. Matt Bradbury tripled and Shane Luzietti doubled, while John Godino went 2 for 2. Tristan Andrew knocked an RBI single, while Will Swift drove in the clinching run with a single in the bottom of the 5th inning.

Taylor and Godino combined on the mound. They were backed by solid defense, highlighted by a 5-3-4 double play in the 1st inning. Third baseman Godino fielded a ground ball and threw to first baseman Haywood for the force. Haywood then threw to second baseman Dillon Robinson who tagged the runner out.

The Renegades next face Marlboro, Massachusetts in the third round of the double elimination tournament.
