Reminder: Residential Curbside E-Cycle Pick-Up

Hempstead Town sanitation department will collect old electronic equipment Wednesday.

Hempstead Town is offering a curbside e-cycle collection Wednesday, Jan. 30.

As consumers are updating their electronic equipment more rapidly these days, proper disposal is important due to the toxins contained in these products.

"That's why Hempstead Town is taking responsible and proactive steps to ensure that your old electronic equipment can be recycled and disposed of properly," the town's website states.

Electronic equipment that will be accepted include:

  • computers
  • computer components
  • televisions
  • VCRs
  • DVD players

Items should be to your curb by 6 a.m. Available to Town of Hempstead Department of Sanitation residential customers only. Businesses do not qualify. Call the Sanitation Department at 378-4210, option 6 for further details.

Just an FYI when getting rid of your old computer either thru this program or just by dumping it make sure to wipe the memory on the hard drive. Using a strong magnet works. While YOU may not think your computer is working there are others who would love to get their hands on it and your info .... Especially if you leave it on the street for p/u or thru donations.
