Nominate Your Favorite Teacher for VFW's Teacher of the Year Award

Maybe they organize community volunteer projects or field trips to government institutions. Maybe they invite local veterans in to speak to the class. Whatever they to do, if you know a teacher whose dedication to community and country can't be beat, now's your chance to help honor them.

Teachers who promote patriotism, civic responsibility and flag etiquette are good candidates for the VFW's 2014 Teacher of the Year award, announced by the Newtown VFW Poster Commander James Rebman.

All current classroom Newtown teachers are eligible, according to the VFW's Donna Monteleone Randle. Fellow teachers, supervisors, parents, students or others can submit nominations. Newtown VFW will recognize one outstanding teacher in grades K-5, 6-8 and 9-12, and submit their names to Fairfield County, state and national contests.

To submit your favorite teacher's name, head to the VFW's website and click "Programs" and "Teacher of the Year." Nominations are due November 1.
