Newtown VFW Reaching Out To Help Family of Nevada Teacher

The following is an announcement from the Newtown VFW Post 308:

Many of us have heard about what happened last Monday, when another
senseless shooting took place at a middle school in Sparks, Nevada. A 12-year old student wounded two fellow students and killed a teacher. The teacher, Michael Landsberry is a former Marine and a Air National Guard Master Sergeant.

Newtown VFW Post 308 Commander James Rebman reflected on how this tragedy touched him personally because both he and Michael Landsberry held the same rank and had the same job when they served in Afghanistan.

"Most of all, he is the true meaning of courage and a hero," said Rebman. We only hope that we all would act in the same manner as he did. We, in Newtown, have been the recipients of the generous outpouring of other VFWs, organizations and individuals and we would like to do the same for the Landsberry family. "

With that, Newtown VFW Post 308 has set up an account where we will accept donations. All proceeds will be used to assist the Landsberry family as they deal with this tragic loss. If you would like to participate in this outreach please make checks payable to Newtown VFW Post 308 and note Michael Landsberry on the check.

The Newtown VFW is located at Freedom Defenders Way (formerly 18 Tinkerfield Road) corner of Wasserman Way and South Main Street, across the street from Walgreens.
