Newtown High to Host Bone Marrow Donor Registry Drive

Registration is this Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Newtown High School's Peer Leadership group is hosting its annual bone marrow donor registry drive this Thursday at the school auditorium. Organizers are seeking seniors and faculty members ages 18 to 14, but the event is also open to the public, according to the Newtown High School Facebook page. Registration is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

To register, participants will be asked to fill out a form and swab their cheeks four times.

Each year about 18,000 people need a potentially life-saving bone marrow or umbilical cord transplant, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Resources. Bone marrow transplants can help patients with leukemia and lymphoma.
