Sandy Hook Kids Will Sing At Super Bowl

They'll be joined by Academy Award-winning singer and actress Jennifer Hudson in a pregame show.

A group of children from Sandy Hook Elementary School are about to take the spotlight at one of the nation's biggest televised events: Super Bowl XLVIII.

A chorus of 26 students -- a number chosen to represent those lost in the Dec. 14 shootings -- will sing "America the Beautiful" alongside singer/actress Jennifer Hudson, according to the Hartford Courant.

The NFL is paying for the kids to stay in a New Orleans-area hotel this weekend. And the children will receive a prominent place in the evening's festivities. NFL official Brian McCarthy told the Courant, "The way it flows is, we will have 'America the Beautiful,' then the National Anthem, and then it's the coin toss, and then kick."

This isn't the first chance for Newtown's kids to show off their singing skills in front of a national audience. On January 15, a different group made up of 21 Newtown students, including students from Sandy Hook schools, sang "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" on Good Morning America with singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson and members of the Talking Heads.
