NSHCF Releases Details on Distribution of $7.7 Million

The foundation established to distribute the millions in donations following the Dec. 14 shooting released outlines for how those most closely affected by the shooting will receive about $7.7 million.

The Newtown-Sandy Hook Community Fund distribution committee -- made up of retired federal judge Alan Nevas and Newtown's Joe Woodall and Joe Smialowski -- met at a forum Thursday night to hear public input on the distribution.

About 95% of the total compensation fund, making up about $7.3 million, will go to families of those who died in the shooting. Each claimant will receive the same payment of $281,000. The two victims injured in the shooting will receive $75,000 each, and families of children present in the classrooms but not injured will receive $20,000 each.

Claimants must go through a process detailed in the protocol released Wednesday by the foundation. (See attached PDF for specifics.) The deadline for the submission of claims is August 5.
