Moms Talk: Your Most Memorable School Bus Moments

This week's question has to do with your most memorable school bus moments in Newtown or elsewhere.

Riding a school bus is a childhood rite of passage that which many in Newtown relish.

Our question this week is "What are some of your most memorable school bus moments as a parent or growing up as a child?"

How about as a teacher? We were on our way home from a trip to the American Museum of Natural History in NYC with about 100 fifth graders. On I84 East just before exit 8, one of the buses ran out of fuel. As most people know, that particular portion of I84 is very dangerous. It was dark and raining. We had two choices. Stay parked on the highway waiting for help and running the risk of being hit, or crowd everyone into one bus thereby being technically overloaded but safer. I think we did the right thing.

Putting the youngest of our kids on the bus for the first time definitely choked me up. With the older ones, I was still busy with their siblings at home, but the last one left me thinking, "Where did the time go!"

Same here Lee. I walked back to the house crying that my "babay" the youngest of 3 got on the bus. As I watched her get on she didn't know anyone or where to sit. She looked around not sure what to do and I couldn't help her. that upset me the most but when I arrived back at the house, my husband assured me that she will manage to do fine which she did. My memorable moment was throwing up on the bus back in kindergarten all over Mr. Mattegats floor.
