Matt Schaub almost shutters as he describes how Newtown Animal Shelter came upon one of their most recent doggy additions.
The kennel keeper says a resident spotted the dog wrapped in a blanket on the side of Zoar Road. The blanket was covered in feces. The female terrier mix wrapped in the blanket had nipples that were among the most engorged the animal shelter had ever seen.
Police searched the area near where she was found for puppies but found nothing. Schaub had to express the milk from the dog to relieve her of the pain.
The dog, about 1-2 years old, is now spayed and is up-to-date on vaccinations. She had just had a bath when Patch stopped by and was then taken on a walk by a volunteer.
"She has a sweet demeanor, that's why we call her 'Sunny,'" Schaub says.
Sunny is in need of a new home — one without any other pets would be best. To schedule an appointment to meet Sunny or one of the other dogs up for adoption at call 203-426-6900.
