2nd Company Governor's Horse Guard Keeps Tradition Alive

Cavalry, which is part of the state military, maintains tradition that dates to 19th century.

The Second Company Governor's Horse Guard has been in existence since 1808. Although its duties are mostly ceremonial, the cavalry remains active. The herd contains 24 horses, and are owned by the state of Connecticut and funded by the military department.

While state agricultural workers care for the horses during the week, troopers take over the care on the weekends and holidays. Listen to the video to hear more about the company.

On July 25, the 2nd Company Governor's Horse Guard will put on a horse show.
