A Poem Of Comfort
In 1991 after suffering a major tragedy in my life, I decided to put my feelings in a poem that I have shared with many people that had tragedies enter their lives.
A Poem Of Comfort For Newtown
In 1991 after suffering a major tragedy in my life, I began to seek an answer. After visiting with many spiritual people I was told to be like Bamboo, bending never breaking. I was told to be like water (I thought “let things roll of my back”) and the more I searched the deeper my thoughts became. I decided to put my feelings in a poem that, through the years, I have shared with many people that had tragedies enter their lives. I have been told many times how much this poem has meant to them and how much it helped people cope. I would like to provide this poem to any or all of those affected by this horrific tragedy.

Life is like the water
soft yet strong and oh so precious.
Water is constant motion
changing, flowing, twisting and turning
seeking calm at its own level.
Water encounters minor obstacles
by flowing around them
meeting on the other side and,
as if the obstacle never existed,
continues its journey toward tranquility.
Water encounters major obstacles
by becoming tumultuous and turbulent,
applying consistent force until the obstacle erodes.
And, once again, the water flows freely toward calm and serenity.
Life is like the water.
Be the water.
