Critical information for your devices in this cold weather!

Humans are not the only things that do not like these freezing temperatures – your electronic gadgets do not either! Many of us carry laptops, tablets and our smartphones with us on a daily basis. Often we leave them in our cars for a few hours.

If you have exposed your electronic gadget to these sub-zero temperatures, here are a few tips to remember:

1.     Prevention is the best cure – do not leave your computer or smart phone in the car for hours. Condensation can form inside permanently damage its hard drive or components.

2.     If you have left it in the cold, let the device thaw or come to room temperature before turning it on. Some of these use liquid displays that can be permanently damaged if you turn them on too quickly after exposure to freezing weather.

3.     If you are going outside with them, make sure they are in a protective case. Besides adding protection from the cold, it will also protect in case of an accidental spill into the snow!

4.     If you are running your device on the power cord, make sure you have it plugged into a surge protector. During these severely cold months, we are more likely to get spikes in the electrical current. This can also damage your device.

Bundle up during these cold days – and keep your electronics out of the cold!
