Why Sandy Hook Diner Is One Of CT's Best: 'You Get To Know Each Other Here'

Connecticut Magazine has named the local diner one of the state's best neighborhood restaurants for its "friendly vibe."

It's good news for Sandy Hook Diner.

The local eatery has been named one of the state's best neighborhood restaurants, according to the latest edition of Connecticut Magazine, which cites its "friendly vibe" and "hearty breakfasts."

But for locals, it's not exactly a surprise. Sandy Hook Diner's Cliff Roth and Laura Piazza say the diner has a way of leading patrons to make new friends over breakfast.

"It's amazing how many regulars come in and meet each other, get to know each other and become friends," says Roth.

It's not exactly done according to plan, Piazza says — it just happens.

"A customer may just come to sit down and have some breakfast, and before you know it, the whole dining room is full and everyone's talking to each other," she says.

One patron, Frank Dyke of Glen Road Auto Body, says it's his go-to for discussion and the latest word on the street.

"You get to hear the weekly gossip and talk it over," he says. "And the food is really good."

Sandy Hook Diner is located at 98 Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook.
