The Newtown Middle School tells the story of this latest storm. As a friend said, “It looks like a war zone.” What was intended for a fun exhibit of the students’ creativity turned into a freak show, with branches crushing and maiming many of the entries.
And that’s pretty much what Newtown looks like, with most of the town’s homes without power because of countless downed trees and snapped branches. What makes this outage particularly strenuous is that most businesses are without power as well.
But there are a few places in town to get a hot meal and purchase supplies. Below is a list of businesses that were open on Monday. Click the business name for addresses and phone numbers.

- Mobil - Open on Monday, but almost sold out of fuel. Call before you go.

- Alternatives: Exit 8 with in service. and on Route 25 in Monroe.
