Shelton Sisters Bringing Cupcake Shop to Newtown [PHOTO]

Cherry's Cupcakes will open in March at 150 Main Street, specializing in "scrumptious gourmet cupcakes."

A new cupcake shop will bring some extra sweetness to South Main Street in March.

Cherry's Cupcakes is the brainchild of Sherry Nash of Shelton. Along with her sister Carrie Chapin and family friend Robin Esposito, they say they'll specialize in "scrumptious gourmet cupcakes."

It's a family effort, says Nash.

"Of course mom's gonna help, too," she says. The spot -- the former location of the Happy Cheesesteak -- will kick off with a grand opening sometime in March, to be announced soon. More to come!

Just got suckered into paying $15 for a half dozen cupcakes. Boy was I taken. The vanilla cupcake tasted like cornbread. The chocolate was all air and hardly any cake. The cupcakes are so small and they over compensated on frosting. Never going to buy here again. I give them a month in business. I will be buying my cupcakes at Shoprite where you get a great 1/2 dozen cakes for $3.99 Not worth the stop at Cherries, don't say I didn't warn you!

I bought two cupcakes-triple chocolate and vanilla/vanilla for my daughter. The frosting was smooth and tasty, the cake -likely from a box but also good. The space? disappointing, as stated above-too much retail junk and no where to sit or wait in line.. small counter space, few cupcakes and not what I expected from a cupcake specialty shop-no unusual toppings or decorations at all. Expensive? omg yes! one trip was alll we'll be making but I also wish them well.

First of all I know for a fact those cupcakes are made from scratch!!! These women have worked non stop for over a year trying to get their cupcakes top notch!! They have been in business for less than a week, give them time to settle......

Wow - glad I am not opening a new business here. How rude can you be? If you read the article and looked at the pictures, you would know what to expect and I have to say your comments do not match what I have seen. Can you people give them a chance to settle in and make changes as all new businesses do? I would imagine if they dudnt have much to choose from would be because they were so good they are all gone! And do yourself a favor - Learn how to do constructive criticism instead of showing your shallow side and say things you know nothing about. Or maybe get a job working for the media. Good luck to the ladies of Cherry Cupcakes! You will do great!!

There is no excuse for being over priced- they werent overly big and no special flavor or cupcake wrap or anything. First impressions are the ones to make the best, no customer coming in thinks about how long you have been making your cupcakes when they get one and it just tastes..okay

I've been very interested in checking out these cupcakes...I agree with Joanne...Some of this is flat out rude, my goodness. To doom a business and give it a timeline for success when you have no idea how much heart somebody has put into it is really unnecessary. I'm sure they'll work things out and things will be successful

I went there and got a few cupcakes and they were very good. It's a treat! I hope they do very well. Good Luck Ladies.

I had the same thought, the cake tasted like it was right out of a box mix. That is something they need to address quickly or it will be another vacant store front across from Citgo...again

I do wish them to succeed, but if they spent a year perfecting their cake recipe, which tastes like a box mix, who did they test it on? Look at a company like Crumb's, a dense moist cake , something people expect when paying premium money for a cupcake.

I am throwing them a bone...if they make this recipe for chocolate cake and frosting, they will sell out every time: http://www.hersheys.com/pure-recipes/details.aspx?id=184
