Route 25 Water Main Project Starts Today

The project along Route 25 in Newtown and Monroe is expected to be completed by January.

The following is an Aquarion Water Co. press release:

Today, Aquarion Water Co. began construction of a water main which will be installed underground along Route 25 in Newtown and extend into Monroe. Construction is estimated to conclude on Jan. 31, 2013.

In order to minimize disruption to traffic and commuters, work hours on Route 25 will be scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Businesses and homes on Route 25 will remain accessible throughout the duration of the water main construction project.

"This water main will serve as a critical back up resource in the event of an emergency," said E. Patricia Llodra, Newtown First Selectman. "We appreciate residents and commuters’ patience during the construction process. Once completed, Newtown’s residents will be able to count on an even more robust water delivery system."

The water main project is being performed for Aquarion by John J. Brennan Construction, and calls for the installation of approximately 5,500 feet of ductile iron water main. The project will begin initially in Newtown at the intersection of Cold Spring Road, with construction continuing south on Route 25 into Monroe.
