'Cash Mob' Hopes to Flood Sandy Hook This Weekend

Economic Development officials say the cash mob will benefit businesses hurt in the aftermath of December 14.

Since the tragic December 14 school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, many businesses in Sandy Hook have been on a roller coaster ride.

"Since the tragedy, Sandy Hook had way too much traffic in the beginning," said Newtown Economic Development Coordinator Betsy Paynter, referring to the barrage of media, well-wishers and onlookers who swarmed the streets in the weeks after the shooting. Road closures and a shortage of parking only contributed to the problem.

"All the sudden, there was no traffic."

The Newtown business community has been looking for a road to recovery. Earlier this month, Gov. Dannel Malloy approved a for the small businesses of Sandy Hook.

So Paynter worked alongside the Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity and We Are Newtown to launch the I Heart Sandy Hook Cash Mob. The idea: use social media and other forms of outreach to flood businesses in the area with customers and support.

"Usually it happens with a single business," said Paynter. "When they come to town, people flood a store to welcome them." This time, over two dozen businesses in Sandy Hook will be on the agenda -- from restaurants like Figs to children's favorites like The Toy Tree -- and everyone is welcome, said Paynter.

"We're asking the community to go down there on this Saturday and refamilairize themselves with Sandy Hook, and just to gain positive energy," she said.

I remember years ago that not all of the information about the Kennedy death and assassination wouldRead More not be unsealed until 2017, so why not be able to seal the records of these deaths for the same amount of time?

To further support my support of Aurelia, the letter above states it was the New York Post thatRead More wanted the details. Good for you town clerk! I goggled the Connecticut Council on Freedom of Information and they are indeed nothing more than a non-profit group. They are not a government agency. And an inept one - their own website is a mess. What clowns.- http://ctcouncilfoi.org/

Town Clerk Aurelia is already causing the town to needlessly spend money defending her derelictionRead More of duty: "An attorney representing the town, with the law firm Cohen and Wolf, issued an opinion in response to the, (New York), Post's request stating that the public is only allowed to view death and marriage certificates that are "at least one hundred years old." Cost aside she is pushing for a state law that would restrict access to a minors birth certificate for 6 months, she originally wanted them sealed for 10 years. The only thing the proposed law is going to accomplish is the healing that has been accomplished is going to be undone when the seal expires. This is much ado about nothing. http://www.newstimes.com/local/article/Newtown-officials-withhold-death-certificates-4526713.php
