Bites Nearby: Rich Farm Ice Cream Shop

Summer on a cone in Oxford

— There isn't a food that screams summer more than a cone heaped high with scoops of decadent ice cream. And this shop has a variety of flavors to see locals through the impending summer days.

Opened in 1994, Rich Farm is a family-run dairy farm, with the ice cream shop also on the property. The counter-style shop has outdoor picnic benches and tables available in the summer months, and an inside dining area for colder weather and private events.

The vast variety of flavors includes favorites such as Cookies and Cream, Mocha Almond Fudge and Peanut Butter Cup, as well as rotating specials, which may include Coconut Chocolate Chunk, Chocolate Raspberry Truffle or Strawberry Rhubarb.

The ice cream is dense and creamy, with chunks of goodies. An example is the Maple Walnut, which has a pure maple taste (rather than that fake manufactured flavor) with crunchy walnuts. A true New England delight.

Rich Farm Ice Cream Shop is open daily, 11:30am - 9pm and is located just across the Southbury border at 691 Oxford Road (Route 67) in Oxford, 203-881-1040.
