Bites Nearby: Misty Vale Deli

MISTY VALE DELI -- This deli is popular with commuters making the trek south on Route 34 as well as students from nearby Newtown High School needing a quick bite and police officers and construction workers who sometimes meet up in the deli's rather large parking lot.

With names such as "The Flagpole" and "The Sandy Hook," the deli's many different sandwiches cater to the Newtown spirit but appeal to nearly every demographic, particularly the bacon-loving crowd.

"The Flagpole" consists of chicken cutlet with ranch dressing, "lots of bacon," melted cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomato on a hard roll.

The prices also will certainly appeal to the budget conscious as nearly all of the speciality sandwichs stay south of $5, which is one reason the deli has stayed popular going on six to seven years now, ever since it took over a liquor store there, staff members will tell you.

If this deli reminds you of other ones nearby, there's a good reason. The owners and operators are the same ones who run  on Main Street in Newtown, Rockwell's Deli in Woodbury, in Bethel, in Southbury and now a third location on Pecks Lane in Newtown.

Once you find a successful formula, all you need to do is stick with it.
