Nutcracker Suite Will Be Centerpiece of Holiday Festival

For the 28th year, Newtown's Holiday Festival is returning, sponsored by Newtown Savings Bank and benefitting Newtown Youth and Family Services on Sunday, Dec. 1. And again this year, the Newtown Center of Classical Ballet will present their performance of the Nutcracker Suite as the centerpiece of the event.

"It gives to great charities, and the girls love putting it on every year," says artistic director Tory Gozzi. This year Newtown Youth and Family Services will split the profits from the ballet 50/50 with Healing Newtown.

Gozzi has taken over many duties this year from Jennifer Johnston, who now chairs Healing Newtown.

"With everything that happened last year, Jennifer had so many added responsibilities, so she asked if I could take over," she said. "She didn't want to end it, she wanted it to keep going."

And she's looking forward to a new generation of dancers on the way.

"Everybody in our company is a returning member this year, but we've got some newer girls under 10 who will be auditioning next year," she says. "They were involved with a lot at the ballet throughout the year."

The holiday festival runs from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Dec. 1 on Main Street, and also features a craft boutique at the Edmond Town Hall gym, a Victorian tea ceremony and a festival of trees.

Tickets are $10 for individuals, $20 for families and can be purchased at Newtown Savings Bank locations, Everything Newtown and C.H. Booth Library. For more information, see the festival's website.
