Tenor Matthew Grills of has reportedly been named a winner in The Metropolitan ’s 2012 National Council Auditions.
As per a report in BroadwayWorld.com, Grills was one of five winners selected from nine finalists who performed arias with the MET Orchestra, conducted by Andrew Davis. Altogether nearly 1,500 singers entered this year’s auditions, which are held annually in 41 districts and 14 regions throughout the United States and Canada, the report states.
Each winner receives a cash prize of $15,000, but perhaps more important, exposure to influential opera executives, artist managers and music critics who attend the auditions.
The Grand Finals Concert was recorded and will be broadcast at a later date on public radio, according to the report.
