Sandy Hook House Concert

Local Singer-Songwriter Pairs with Fingerstyle Guitarist for a House Concert

Some songwriters come up with words for their songs and some don’t.

On Saturday, June 18, music lovers can enjoy both forms when Newtown musician Darryl Gregory pairs up with fingerstyle guitarist Buzz Turner to present an evening of songs (a few sans lyrics) and stories in a house concert setting.

Mr. Gregory’s music is best described as “hard-edged country, with a soft heart” while Mr. Turner plays contemporary instrumental guitar pieces in which blues, jazz and rock merge with Celtic, Latin and world influences.

“As I was planning this show I immediately thought of Buzz and how our styles would compliment each other,” says Mr. Gregory. “We both have an American roots sound and we both experiment with open tuning. But since he doesn’t use lyrics his music is open to interpretation and I thought that would be a fun change for the audience.”

Mr. Gregory produced his first house concert in December of 2010 to replace a booking he lost when the Blue Z Coffee House closed. The event quickly sold out, encouraging the Sandy Hook resident, who has toured throughout the Eastern United States, to continue performing in this intimate setting. He has released two solo CDs. www.DarrylGregory.com

Mr. Turner hails from Roxbury, CT. His original compositions and impressive fingerstyle technique (he plays without a pick) earned him a first place prize from the International Acoustic Music Awards and syndicated national airplay. www.buzzturner.com

Mr. Turner and Mr. Gregory will present an evening of songs and stories at 29 Fawnwood Road, Sandy Hook, CT. Seating is limited to 25 persons and reservations are strongly recommended by sending an RSVP to darryl@bluecavestudios.com or calling (917) 297-3113.

The house opens at 6:30 PM and music begins at 7:15 PM. Light snacks will be available but drinks are BYOB.

Suggested donation in support of the artists is $5.
