Newtown Summer Concert Series Featuring BOPLICITY

Boplicity is one of the premier jazz groups in the area, playing everything from be-bop to fusion, from swing to latin, from cool jazz to hot blues.

In the event of light rain the concerts will be held under the pavilion.

Located on scenic Elm Drive in Newtown, this park was dedicated to former Newtown first selectman A. Finn Dickinson in 1955. This park is open to Newtown residents from 9 a.m. until sundown. A park permit is required on any vehicle entering the park. There is something to do for people of all ages.

Directions ( FROM THE FLAGPOLE )
South on Rte. 25 to intersection with Rte. 302 Turn right onto Rte. 302 Turn left onto Elm Drive The first entrance to the park is on the right, past the cemetery and baseball fields (The tennis courts and pavillion can be reached from this entrance.) The second entrance to the park is on Brushy Hill Road Drive past the first entrance Turn right onto Brushy Hill Road The second entrance is immediately on the right through the chain link fence.

Boplicity’s repertoire is quite extensive including pieces by Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Herbie Hancock, Count Basie, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, John Coltrane, Chick Corea, Rodgers & Hart, Keith Jarrett, Wayne Shorter, Benny Goodman, Thelonius Monk, Antonio Carlos Jobim,  Dave Brubeck and others.  Boplicity plays songs such as Take The A Train, It Don’t Mean a Thing if it Ain’t Got That Swing, Watermelon Man, Autumn Leaves, 500 Miles High, Groovin’ High, Satin Doll, Maiden Voyage, Stompin’ At The Savoy, So What, Body & Soul, Take 5. Birdland, Oye Como Va,  and many, many more.
