Master Chorale to Present Concert at St. Rose

NEWTOWN: The Connecticut Master Chorale, under the direction of Tina Johns Heidrich, will present its winter concert on Sunday, March 13th at 3pm at St. Rose of Lima Church in Newtown.

Featured on the program will be two newly released works, Requiem by K. Lee Scott and My Song in the Night arranged by Mack Wilberg.

Requiem is a wonderful example of K. Lee Scott’s masterful choral and orchestration skills.  This non-liturgical Requiem took him almost twenty years to complete to his satisfaction and is written entirely in English.  He has chosen eloquent texts from the Bible, as well as poet John Donne and hymn writer Timothy Dudley-Smith for this uplifting work, filled with inspiring descriptions of the beauty of the life to come in heaven.

Also on the program is My Song in the Night arranged by Mack Wilberg, Music Director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and their primary arranger for many years.  The six works in this collection reflect his passion for the music and melodies of the common man as passed down from one generation to the next.

“His Voice as the Sound”, “Bound for the Promised Land”, “My God, My Portion and My Love”, and “My Song in the Night” are not at all well-known today and deserve to be brought back into the spotlight of public consciousness.  “Down to the River to Pray” was re-popularized eleven years ago in the movie “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”.  They have all been given memorable and unique arrangements by the talented Dr. Wilberg, ending with the beloved standard “Amazing Grace”, in a spectacular version complete with bagpipes played by Chuck Connors of Brookfield.

The Chorale will be joined by Soprano soloist Louise Fauteux and accompanied by the Connecticut Master Chorale Orchestra and Joseph Jacovino Jr. on organ.

The Connecticut Master Chorale is an ensemble of 55 vocalists in their 12th year of singing in Western Connecticut.  In addition to their regular three-concert season, the Chorale has performed by invitation at the White House, Lincoln Center, Madison Square Garden, West Point Military Academy and three times at Carnegie Hall.

Newtown residents in the Master Chorale are Judy Bolduc, Ginnie Carey, Lisa Cedergren, David Jurman, Karen Orzechowski, Nancy Raymond, Pastor Gregory Wismar, and Dan Yee.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.  Please call (203) 743-0473, or visit www.cmchorale.org for information or ticket purchase.
