Destination Newtown

The 8th annual Destination Newtown, the only business-oriented annual exposition in town will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2011 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the Newtown Congregational Church at 14 West St.

Open to the public and free to attend, Destination Newtown is an opportunity for chamber members to meet and network with other businesses and the greater Newtown community.  Attendees are invited to explore the booths, enjoy food donated by local restaurants and meet owners and employees of businesses in town. 

Chamber members are invited to participate as sponsors, advertisers and Expo exhibitors. Themed “The Best of Newtown,” the event is hosted by the Chamber of Commerce of Newtown and sponsored by Newtown Savings Bank.

The Taste of Newtown will feature samples from more than 10 local restaurants, including many favorites from prior years, such as Sal e Pepe, My Place, Tambascio’s, Mona Lisa, Carminuccios and Franco’s with new additions to be featured as well. 

Additional highlights include kid-friendly activities such as face painting and coloring, health screening and flu shots, raffles, music and more.

New this year is a free shuttle bus service provided to help alleviate the crowded parking lot issues experienced in the past.  Attendees can hop on the free shuttle bus that will transport people to and from Edmond Town Hall, where they can park.  The bus will operate between 4 and 7 p.m.

The V.I.P. Networking Reception is returning this year, exclusively for the business community.  Tickets are available at $10 for members and $15 for non-members. The reception will begin at 2:45 pm before the expo opens at 4 pm. The keynote speaker is John Murphy, CEO of Western CT Health Network and a neurologist and Newtown resident.

Murphy assumed the role of president and chief executive officer of Danbury Health Systems, Inc. on July 1, 2010 after serving as its executive vice president since 2008.   The promotion completes a logical transition process for Murphy who formerly served as chairman of Danbury Hospital's Board of Directors.  On October 1, 2010, Danbury Hospital affiliated with New Milford Hospital to become Western Connecticut Healthcare, Inc.
