A Child's Christmas in Wales at Town Players

Just in time for the holiday season, Town Players of Newtown will bring Dylan Thomas' childhood Christmas memories to life onstage in A Child's Christmas in Wales – a theatrical phenomenon that is poised to join the ranks of classic holiday fare such as The Nutcracker and A Christmas Carol.

This production is suitable for the entire family.

Originally inspired by a 1987 British television version adapted by Jon Glascoe and Peter Kreutzer, the script by director Mary Poile uses material from earlier pieces by Thomas, which formed the basis for his tale. Town Players originally staged Poile's adaptation in 1999, who subsequently adapted the script for Yale New Haven radio. The radio adaptation is being used for this production.

While remaining faithful to Thomas' written word, this stage adaptation combines elements of radio interspersed with vignettes, music and song, performed by an ensemble of actors playing multiple roles and using simple techniques to showcase Thomas' extraordinary gift for language. The staging of this show will, in fact, be reminiscent of Town Players' popular and critically acclaimed production of A Christmas Carol in 2009.

The cast includes Chris Bird of Newtown, Pat Fink of New Fairfield, Gabe Gordon of Ridgefield, Pam Meister of Newtown, Linda Panovich-Sachs of Bridgeport, Will Sandercox of Sandy Hook, Deirdre Seeley of Bethel, Jordan Williams of Sandy Hook and Nina Wilson of Danbury. Nancy Gordon of Ridgefield is the show's producer and Amanda Goodman of Carmel, NY is the show's musical director.
