Broadway Stars Partner with 12.14 Foundation to Bring Summer Plays to Newtown

Broadway stars Marla Mindelle of Cinderella and Sister Act, and Clarke Thorell of Hairspray and Annie fame, will join 200 Newtown students for two shows this summer.

The 12.14 Foundation is working with a number of Broadway stars this summer to present two plays to fulfill their mission to use the performing arts to promote healing and strength.

Over 200 children from the Newtown area will audition and perform in A ROCKIN' Midsummer Night's Dream, an adaptation of the Shakespeare classic, and The 101 Dalmatians Musical. 

According to Playbill.comA ROCKIN' Midsummer Night's Dream musical is adapted by Michael Unger and Eric Svejcar with a score by Svejcar. Broadway stars Marla Mindelle (Cinderella, Sister Act), Clarke Thorell (Hairspray, Annie) and Saum Eskandani (Disaster!, A Year With Frog and Toad) will join the Newton students.

The 101 Dalmatians Musical will be adapted specifically for Newtown by Unger and Dennis DeYoung. The production will star Kristine Zbornik (A Catered Affair, Mamma Mia!in Las Vegas) as Cruella de Ville. Over 100 Newtown children will play the Dalmatians. 

Van Dean is co-producer of the musical and Michael Baroody, founder of the 12.14 Foundation, is the executive producer. Orchestrations are by Kim Scharnberg.
